Scouts

Being a Scout

Scouts is for young people aged 10½–14. It’s a time of big adventures, real challenges, and building the skills that last a lifetime.

As a Scout, you’ll go on expeditions, learn survival skills, take on community projects, and challenge yourself in ways you never expected. Scouting at this age is about pushing boundaries, making great friends, and discovering what you’re truly capable of.

Activities

Scouts take on a huge range of activities – from camping and hiking to coding, cooking, and community action. Every meeting brings something new, and every term is packed with adventures both locally and further afield.

Scout Awards

Scouts work through a wide range of badges and challenges. The top award for Scouts is the Chief Scout’s Gold Award – one of the most prestigious youth awards in the UK.

The Scout Promise

When young people join Scouts, they make the Scout Promise – a commitment to do their best, help others, and uphold the values of Scouting.

Moving Up to Explorers

When Scouts reach 14, they move up to Explorers – where independence, leadership, and bigger adventures await.

Uniform and Badge Placement

Scouts wear a teal green uniform. You don’t need a uniform to join – once you’ve settled in, you’ll start earning badges to wear with pride.
